Studio Insights: A Day in the Life During Crunch Time

Studio Insights: A Day in the Life During Crunch Time

As the year progresses, my studio transforms into a hive of activity, especially as I prepare for major exhibitions like the One of a Kind Show in Toronto and the Salon des Métiers d'Art in Montreal. The energy is palpable, and the stakes are high as I balance creating new pieces with fulfilling custom orders.

A typical day during this crunch time is anything but ordinary. Mornings start early, with a cup of coffee in hand and my mind already racing with ideas. The workshop at 620 Rue Cathcart, Montreal Suite 619, is alive with the hum of tools and the flicker of the torch. It’s a time of both high emotions and intense focus, where every piece I create must stand out. My process involves working closely with high-level goldsmithing techniques, particularly fusion, which demands my full attention to achieve the desired results.

Despite the pressure, there’s a rhythm to this chaos. I focus on creating truly unique pieces, often statement items that reflect the ancient, mystical, and whimsical themes I’ve been exploring. When I design, I draw inspiration from the mysteries of the cosmos, as if channeling the vastness and beauty of the universe into wearable art. Each piece is an attempt to capture the elegance of natural design elements, offering a moment to contemplate our place in the universe. In these pieces, there's a delicate balance of artistry and cosmic inspiration, inviting a deeper connection for those who seek it.

The support from my wife is invaluable during these periods. She helps keep me organized and grounded, ensuring that the chaos of the studio doesn't spill over into other areas of life. Together, we plan, prioritize, and push through the intense workload, always with an eye on the end goal—showcasing work that speaks to those who appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship involved.

As the days until the shows tick down, I encourage anyone interested in custom work to reach out sooner rather than later. My schedule will be extremely tight from late October through December, and availability will be limited.
