Pre-Show Preparations and Expectations: Behind the Scenes
As the countdown to the 2024 One of a Kind Show in Toronto (November 21 to December 1) and the Salon des Métiers d'Art in Montreal (December 12 to 22) begins, my studio is abuzz with anticipation and activity. Preparing for these shows is no small feat, and there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to ensure everything comes together perfectly.
The first step in my pre-show preparations is selecting which pieces to showcase. This is a careful process where I consider the themes and aesthetics that will resonate most with the audience. For these upcoming shows, I’ll be focusing on pieces that reflect the ancient, mystical, and whimsical elements that have been central to my recent work. Each piece is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, from the initial design phase to the final polish, ensuring it embodies the craftsmanship and artistic vision I’m known for.
In addition to curating the collection, there’s the logistical side of preparing for these shows. This includes gathering my work from other jewelry stores, organizing the display, and ensuring that every aspect of the presentation reflects the quality of the work. There’s also the practical matter of ensuring all my tools, including my laser welder, are in top condition—essential for last-minute adjustments or touch-ups.
My expectations for these shows are high, not just in terms of sales but in the connection I hope to create with those who visit my booth. I’m looking forward to seeing how people respond to the new pieces, especially the more creative and experimental designs. There’s always a sense of excitement and a bit of nerves as the show dates approach, but it’s all part of the process that makes these events so rewarding.
For those interested in custom work, all new projects are being held off until mid-February. However, I encourage you to reach out and get on the list now to ensure a spot when my schedule opens up. Your project will be given the time and attention it deserves once the current commitments are fulfilled.
